A Little Green Goes a Long Way

Imagine yourself pulling up to a home, looking out your car window, and seeing a lawn that is overgrown and unkempt. The first thing people assume is that the outside of your home represents how the inside will be. Most people who are truly interested in having a nice home won’t allow their yard to get out of control, and will do the basic maintenance of mowing, edging, and weeding. What seems to slip the minds of most people, who spend a good amount of time and resources fixing up the inside of a house, is that a few simple additions to the landscape of their property will greatly increase its look and value.

Whether you are selling your home, or just trying to maintain its beauty, there are a few things to consider adding to your landscape. A fresh layer of bark dust, mulch, or some sort of rocks around bushes and trees will brighten up and add life to your existing lawn. The colors they bring will not only catch the eyes of people passing your home, but will also make your lawn look brighter and fuller. Planting some favorite flowers or bushes alongside your house in the area seen on the way to the backyard will show that all parts of your home are cared for.

Is your back yard just a plain patch of grass? A planter or retaining wall for a small garden area or patch of flowers will add a great deal of character. A small tree, where allowed by your home owners association, can either provide some needed shade or just some extra beauty. For those looking to add a little more serenity to their home, a water feature could be the perfect fit. Water features come in many different forms, such as a waterfall or a small pond. A trained professional is generally the best to put in most forms of water features, as the correct liners, pumps, and drains are needed to avoid affecting the area around it.

One of the best things that you can do for the landscape of your home is to have an automatic sprinkler system. The advantages to spending the money on having automatic sprinklers installed are great. Once properly adjusted, the sprinklers will cut down on your water bill as watering by hand wastes a great deal of the water used. Time is saved by having them set for an early morning watering, and another after the sun has gone down. Not only will your lawn be greener, but your trees and plants will also get the proper amount of water that we often times forget that they need.

In the same way wedding bands let the ladies know you’re off the market, the landscape of your home is the first impression given to guests and prospective buyers. Make your house stand out in a market where cookie cutter homes rule the day. A little bit of green will go a long way to make your home the best it can be.
