From Hollywood Celebs to Real Estate Fat Cats

While many Hollywood celebrities might seem quite flaky, there are a few who have maintained their wits and demonstrated talents in the real estate market.

Whether enjoying owning multiple homes, spinning off properties during booming real estate markets or development, there are a few celebrity real estate barons who are doing quite well.

Some people sell their scrap gold for cash, Nicholas Cage sells properties. He seems to live in his newly acquired homes for a short while and then sells them for profit.  One estimate has him holding fourteen buildings in five countries.

He has used his Hancock Park Real Estate Trust to purchase numerous properties including the following:

The “LaLaurie House” - 1140 Royal Street, New Orleans, French Quarter, in the 1830s Delphine LaLaurie engaged in horrible torture of slaves; since then, the spirits have haunted the mansion, testifying to her horrible crimes.

Bel-Air Los Angeles, California - 11,817 square foot home, Tudor estate with seven bedrooms, formerly owned by Dean Martin and Tom Jones, listed for $35 million.

British Castle in Bath, England - club-shaped, built in 1775, 58 acres, seven bedrooms, two cottages.

Clint Eastwood has shown a particularly effective talent for developing important properties:

Mission Ranch restaurant on Carmel River - local hangout serving steak ribs and potatoes.

Pebble Beach - working with Peter Uberroth and Arnold Palmer, property includes four golf courses, purchased in 1999 for $820 million.

Carmel Development Company - Tehama, Carmel, California (Native-American for “Abundance of Nature”) is an exclusive 2,000 acre plus real estate development with picturesque hills above the Pacific Ocean; it has a private 18-hole golf course, fitness center, swimming pool and tennis courts.

Jack Nicholson is well-known for his numerous properties, many of which he simply enjoys living in.

He owns the largest buffalo herd in the world - selling the buffalo meat at Ted’s Grill. He makes money from ranching, forestry, hunting, fishing and oil leases.

He charges hunters fees for tracking down game at his 113,000 acre Flying D in Southwestern Montana. He attempts to make money while remaining environmentally-conscious, returning wild animals to the land and saving native species.
